Suspension and Drivetrain

Once the body was straight and in one piece again, the suspension and mechanical bits gotta go in. The motor was rebuilt just before I removed it from the car so I decided that it could go back in. The original 3 speed transmission absolutely had to go though. A brand new z-spec Tremec T5 got installed! Marty also upgraded the brakes with disks up front and 2 inch drums in the back. The rear end was also completely rebuilt with new gears and bearings. Air conditioning is also a required upgrade given the long hot Texas summers!

Here's where I got the disk brake conversion from:

http://www.discbrakeswap.com/

The A/C came from here:

http://www.classicautoair.com/

It's got a motor! This is a fresh (well, 5 years ago) 289 that

is put together right by Mike Snook. It's dusty and dirty

from living on an engine stand for so long. No matter, it'll clean

up nice.

All new front suspension awaiting new spindles. I decided

to go with a disk brake setup so We are waiting on parts here.

The spring is the only thing being reused.

Here's a nice view of the straight, undercoated floor. For those

eagle-eyed prople out there, yes, the transmission is not installed yet.

You can also see the new rear springs. The reworked rear

is done, just not installed yet. You can also see the all new stainless

steel brake line...

Brakes are here! Dual piston calipers on slotted

rotors. Spacer installed for the Cobra trims I am

hoping to install.

Reworked and repainted axle installed. New bearings, seals

and a new ring and pinion gear. The old carrier was also wore

out so a good used unit was installed in it's place. The new

ratio is 3.00:1. It had a 2.79:1 before and came from Ford

with a 3.05:1.

Here's another view of the axle and Cobra tires. New

gas tank installed too. Anybody wanna help me fill it up?

Here's the Cobra tires. I'm going to change the centers to a

standard Mustang running pony emblem. I still may end up

going to a different tire/rim combo, but I'm not for sure yet.

Here's the new T5 installed behind the old 289. Nickel plated

try-y headers too...

Upgraded to 2 inch drums on the back. Yeah, I know they are

cheap Chinese, sue me...

If you look close here, you can see the bellhousing had to be

clearanced slightly for the driver's side header. You can also see the

driveshaft installed here.

Here's a top down view of the headers and the new master cylinder.

Also a new adjustable porportioning valve that came with the

frond disk brake swap kit can be seen here. The brake system

is complete and functional.

Here's a nice pic of the underside pretty much all done.

Still needs exhaust. Sure is clean. It'll be a pity

to dirty it all up by actually driving it!

The be A/C here!

Checkout www.rustpig.com! I got that car the same day

I took this pic! 09-11-11.
